Treatment for Gum Disease

Woman at Dentist | Dentist Rockwall TXYou’ve heard it your whole life – brush, floss, and see your dentist twice a year for cleanings and exams. It’s the best advice you’ll ever receive because the reward is a healthy, problem-free smile. We emphasize prevention, but we recognize that everyone starts in a different place, so we begin by correcting problems first.

Gum disease is a prevalent problem that affects 40 percent of US adults over age 30. It's so widespread in part because we can't always rely on obvious symptoms like bleeding gums. In some cases, gum disease can do significant damage before you're aware that it even exists.

You may not know you have it, but your dentist and hygienist will find it at your six-month dental appointments. That's another reason that your twice-yearly checkups are so crucial.

If you have mild gum disease, also called gingivitis, a comprehensive dental cleaning with your hygienist and improved oral hygiene at home are usually enough to eliminate it.

Advanced periodontal disease is called periodontitis, which requires a deep cleaning procedure called scaling and root planing. Your hygienist will make recommendations.

We use a high-tech soft-tissue laser to remove bacteria and promote healing in a procedure called LANAP (laser-assisted reattachment procedure) to support the re-growth and health of diseased or damaged gum tissue.

Frequently Asked Questions

At Natural Dentistry of North Texas, we pride ourselves on providing you with the level of care we would expect for our own family. That includes offering sedation and doing everything possible to ensure that you are comfortable during your appointment.

Many of our patients find that our gentle, personalized approach to dental care is enough to help them relax and know they are in good hands. But many others appreciate the calming effects of sedation dentistry at our Mesquite, TX dental office.

Dr. Randhawa is certified to provide sedation with nitrous oxide as well as oral conscious sedation. Either method helps you relax, but they offer different levels of comfort.

Nitrous oxide is a form of conscious sedation that’s mild enough to use for children. You inhale nitrous through a small nasal mask, and as you do, you will start to feel very calm and relaxed. You’ll experience a deep sense of wellbeing, but you will remain conscious and able to communicate with your team. Nitrous leaves the system quickly so that you can drive yourself home from your appointment.

Oral conscious sedation involves taking a prescription medication about an hour before your appointment. You’ll arrive feeling very relaxed and drowsy, and many patients fall asleep during their procedure.

If you think that you would benefit from sedation dentistry, please call us or let us know before your next procedure. Your comfort and wellbeing is our priority!

At Natural Dentistry of North Texas, we focus on providing exceptional patient care to all our patients. We are especially sensitive to the feelings of our friends and neighbors who are anxious about getting dental care.

Dr. Randhawa focuses on ensuring that your procedure is as pain-free and stress-free as possible for you. You can count on her expertise and 15 years of experience in providing patients with high-quality, comfortable dental care. Before administering an injection, she uses a topical numbing gel to minimize discomfort. Dr. Randhawa’s experience giving dental injections has led many of our patients to say that they didn’t even realize they already had a shot!

But we want everyone to be comfortable, and some patients can benefit from sedation dentistry. We are pleased to offer nitrous oxide at our Mesquite, TX dental office for patients who want to eliminate the possibility of anxiety. When you inhale nitrous oxide through a comfortable nasal mask, you will enjoy a deep sense of relaxation and wellbeing.

Our team knows that when you are relaxed during your appointment, we can provide you with the safe, comfortable treatment you deserve. Please call Natural Dentistry of North Texas to see for yourself why our patients count on our gentle, compassionate care.
